MARUDI: The establishment of neighbourhood committee (KRT) as well as village development and security committee (JKKK) in all residential areas should be encouraged to help beef up the security of the areas and the country as a whole. Assistant Minister for Water Supply, Sylvester Entri Muran said in a multi-racial country like Malaysia a high sense of neighbourliness and greater understanding among the people are important to help consolidate the long established racial unity and harmony. At the same time, JKKK and KRT could work closely among themselves in identifying projects urgently needed for their areas. “Only when there is harmony and greater understanding among the people can we expect peace and harmony, which are prime factors in promoting greater development.” “So JKKK and KRT have important roles in ensuring peace and security in their areas and ensure that development programmes could be implemented too,” said Entri at the launch of the formation of KRT and JKKK of Kampong Dagang Marudi on Wednesday night. He also presented bursaries to students of SK Datuk Shariff Hamid who excelled in their public examinations. Also present were his wife, Rosnie Sulong, the village’s headman and chairman of the JKKK, Abdullah Piee and his deputy, Sarbini Hamid who is also the chairman of KRT Kampong Dagang, and headmaster of SK Datuk Shariff Hamid, Jamil Sabil. Entri added with the current campaigning period for the state’s 10th election, security of the state could be threatened if sensitive issues are not tackled with great care, especially when every candidate strive to project good things for the the people to vote for them. “JKKK and KRT could help check any incidence or cases that could threaten the security and harmony of the respective areas.” |
